Getting Started#
The Redux Nitrate is a next-generation external brushless motor controller with high power throughput and advanced software features. Nitrate is designed from the ground-up to support the most demanding FRC applications, with hardware and software that’s ready to redefine the cutting-edge.
Latching connectors on all ports, short-circuit and reverse polarity protection, and integrated wires minimize expensive user errors and ensure a rock-solid system from start to finish. An integrated thermal model for the Cu60 keeps the magic smoke safely contained in your motor. Low latency velocity readings and backlash compensated remote sensor fusion allow for high fidelity control in the most demanding applications.
Atomic Bond turns any Nitrate into a motor leader or swerve pod controller, allowing teams to access high-rate odometry and sensor tracking an order of magnitude more performant than any single-bus solution.
Nitrate is compatible with all FRC-legal brushless motors and is legal for the 2026 FRC season. Upgrade some or all of your systems seamlessly.
Overview#
High bandwidth (1kHz - 10kHz) motor to sensor and motor to motor communication via Atomic Bond
High rate (500Hz+) swerve odometry via Atomic Swerve on Rio CAN 2.0B
Extreme rate (5kHz+) swerve odometry planned for the 2027 CAN FD bus
60+ amps of continuous motor current capacity
Configurable/tunable over CAN and USB
8 Mbps CAN-FD capable (2027-proof)
Low profile with 1” 10-32 mounting hole spacing designed to mount onto a 2x1 rectangular tube
- Reinforced, latching hall commutation port
Legacy brushless motors will require the use of an adapter cable to plug into the latching hall port.
MolexSL CAN and Atomic Bond connectors
Resilient against motor hall/thermistor/sensor line shorts to 12v and reverse-polarity on power input
PID, motion profiles, thermal models, encoder sync, and swerve control - with more software features coming soon
